The Dérkomai people are an ancient, fantansy race. Dérkomai translates from Greek: ‘the one who stares.’ This refers to the winged serpent in the bond. The Dérkomai have two souls residing in one body. A human soul and a Drakos soul. Once the human accepts the bonding of a Drakos soul, they become a Dérkomai. The human body undergoes a transformation.
A tattoo resembling the winged serpent will be placed upon the body. People refer to this as the ‘seal.’ A visual representation of the bond between Drakos and human. Note that only the Sacred Drakos tattoo will be placed on the back. No other Drakos is allowed to set the seal on this region. If, say, a tail and claw were placed close to the area of the body, then it is permitted.
A Drakos is a winged- beast soul. Often appearing as a serpent-like beast. Scaly body, webbed wings, forked tongue, and lizard-like eyes. The Drakos once lived on the earth before the Lost Era. Oral stories told that when the last Drakos died, the sky wept, and the ground rumbled as the soul traveled to the Void. After the Lost Era, the Drakos wanted to live again. So they struck a deal with a human.
The dragons or Drakos in the Realm of Kenós are inspired by the dragons in ancient Greek, Babylonian, and Sumerian mythology.
Derived by a winged-serpent, whose eyes never blinked. The ancient’s believed these serpent creatures controlled Divine powers, such as raising mountains or harboring a sea storm. In Greek, the famous Typhoeus is the father of all dacos and hybrid beasts. In text he was a giant winged hybrid. He had a man-shaped from waist up with two coiled serpent legs. Additionally, Typhoeus had a hundred heads for fingers, dirty bread, and pointed eyes. His eyes were flashing red, unblinking.
In the Sacred Emperor Series, the Drakos are said to be ghostly serpents with unblinking eyes. They bond to a human, living inside them as souls. Living the world through their chosen human. Gifting the human divine powers.
Appearance
The Dérkomai body changes to adapt to the power of the Drakos that bonds with them. Only a Dérkomai will have noticeable appearance changes. There are three different types of Dérkomai, which will be covered later. The hair on the body changes into a darker color and their eyes turn a shade of purple. The skin will appear paler. The body will also grow taller.
Inside the body. An organ will form above the stomach. This is referred to as Kardiodrákos or Kardi by the Dérkomai. This is a very important organ. The Kardi supports the Drakos’s powers and blood. Note the blood will be a shade of black. The darker the blood the purer the person is. The magic is spread through the body via the blood. The blood starts from the Kardi and enters the human heart. From there it spreads through the body. When the Drakos’s main ability is active or present, the veins on the body will become viable as black lines.
Hair: Pure Dérkomai will have black, ebony hair. Hair can grow faster and longer than a human's hair. If not cared for properly, the hair can feel tough to the touch. A liquid soap of almond and olive oil along with plants in their local regions. Some plants even gave the soap a perfume smell. This soap will need to be applied to the hair at least three times a week. This will make the hair feel softer and light to the touch, like silk.
Eyes: Pure Dérkomai will have purple eyes. Various shades of purple could often tell if the Dérkomai were related to the Sacred Drakos or Sacred Emperor [refer to Dérkomai Court for more details]. When the Dérkomai use their Drakos’s ether abilities, their eyes transform into what is known as Mátia Drákou or Máti. The eye will take a lizard-like or cat-like appearance. Meaning the eye will have a large iris with a vertical pupil. The color will change depending on the Drakos’s Primary Magickal Ability. Blue eyes are associated with water. Green eyes are associated with earth. Orange or red eyes are associated with fire. And gray or white eyes are associated with air.
Bone: The bone structure remains the same, however, can grow to make the person taller. Reference to the once great size of the Drakos. Both gender’s bones will feel lighter. Also reference how the winged- serpents were able to fly. Similar to birds, the bones are lighter to allow the beast to fly. However, their light weight does not mean strength. The bones of the beast are fused with a strange earth metal that gives them durability. Making the bones almost unbreakable. It takes a large amount of force to break a Dérkomai’s bones.
Blood: The Drakos’s magic is carried in the blood. A Dérkomai will have black blood. The dark color is associated with how powerful the Drakos are. The darker the color, the stronger the magic. Additionally, the color reflects one's statues. The darker the color the purer the Dérkomai is and reflect in their royalty statues. An impure Dérkomai can become royal and gain the respect of a pure individual, however, there is a limit. An impure can not be from the Sacred Emperor line. The Drakos refuse to have such impurity.
Hearts: There are two hearts in the body. One is the beast heart, referred to as Kardiodrákos (Kardi) and the other is the human heart referred to as Heorte. The Kardi is located above the stomach. This is where all the magic is stored. This is a very sensitive organ. The slightest touch could send the organ into shock. In order to protect the organ, most Dérkomai work their core into a muscular torso. The tight muscles protect the heart from day to day accidental touches. Some Dérkomai do not work their core, but instead grow their belly through fat.
The flow of blood starts with the Kardi. The Kardi will fuse the magic into the blood, then pump the blood up to the Heorte. There the blood is pumped into the body. When the Dérkomai bleeds, the blood will appear black. Take note, the blood will begin to evaporate in contact with the air. If one wishes to have their blood, you will need to seal it immediately to keep the air away. Or else, the blood will disappear in a hissing sound.
Note: To kill a Dérkomai, all one must do is damage the Kardi. There is no medicine or known magical ability that can heal this organ. Once the organ is damaged, the person will go into shock which will lead to violent shakes. Until the person either bleeds out or the Heorte stops beating. One can expect blood to bubble around the mouth, bleeding out the eyes and ears. This is a very painful death to the Dérkomai.out your site, a customer quote, or to talk about important news.
